About Tiffany Bienkowski
Tiffany graduated from Wilkes University in May of 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. During her time at Wilkes she participated in the IRS’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ) program and was on the Dean’s List.
Tiffany interned at the office of Karen M. Hazleton, CPA, PC during her last semester of college, and was hired as a staff accountant soon after graduation. She has a variety of responsibilities at the office, some of which include book-keeping as well as individual and corporate tax return preparation. She is currently studying for the CPA exam.
On her days off, Tiffany is learning to play golf and enjoys reading, cooking and ice hockey as she is a big fan of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Michelle L. Hazleton
Michelle is a 2009 graduate of Wilkes University earning a bachelors’ degree in accounting. While at Wilkes, she was a member of the Dean’s List, National Business Honors Society, and participated in an Alternative Spring Break project in which she and fellow students traveled to Louisiana to tear down houses for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Throughout her college career, Michelle has worked as an assistant to her mother, Karen M. Hazleton, CPA, and has garnered extensive experience in the Quick Books accounting program, payroll processing, individual tax preparation and small business start-up providing accounting services to a wide range of clients. She joined the firm as an associate in December 2008.
Michelle is proud of her community service. She serves as a part-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the City of Nanticoke and is an active member of the Nanticoke Volunteer Fire Department. She also serves as the treasurer of the Newport Township Ambulance Association and Secretary of the Nanticoke Firemen’s Relief Association.
The daughter of Karen and Kevin Hazleton, Michelle lives in Nanticoke with her bloodhound Scooter, great dane Diesel and cats Marmalade and Spookey. Her list of hobbies includes travel, golf, and her pets. Michelle is currently studying for the CPA exam.
A Certified Public Accountant for 26 years, Karen is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
A native of Connecticut, she came to Northeastern Pennsylvania to attend Wilkes University, where she was an all-star student-athlete. She graduated from Wilkes with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting followed by earning her Master’s Degree of Business Administration (MBA) in 1981.
Karen established her own firm, Karen M. Hazleton, CPA, PC, in Nanticoke, PA in 1986. Her firm has earned the reputation of being a “Business Person’s Friend” specializing in business start-ups, individual taxes, corporate partnership taxes and payroll tax preparation for a wide range of satisfied clients throughout Luzerne County. Karen’s community service includes serving on the Finance Committee of the Wyoming Valley Country Club.
Among her many accomplishments, one that makes her extremely proud is being inducted to the Wilkes University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. She was named to the 13th class of elite athletes at the University, recognized for her prowess as a member of the Colonel’s women’s basketball and softball teams from 1974 to 1978, playing under her maiden name, Karen Olney.
Karen and her husband, Kevin Hazleton, an electrical planner, reside in Nanticoke with their two children, Kevin, a Senior Nuclear Engineering major at Penn State, and Michelle, who has worked at the firm throughout her college years and is a Graduate from Wilkes University with a degree in Accounting.
During her time off, Karen enjoys reading, traveling, competitive golf and playing Racko.
