A Certified Public Accountant for 31 years, Karen is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and Pennsylvania Society of Tax & Accounting Professionals.
A native of Connecticut, she came to Northeastern Pennsylvania to attend Wilkes University, where she was an all-star student-athlete. She graduated from Wilkes with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and earned her Master’s Degree of Business Administration (MBA) in 1981.
Karen established her own firm, Karen M. Hazleton, CPA, PC, in Nanticoke, PA in 1986. Her firm has earned the reputation of being a “Business Person’s Friend” specializing in business start-ups, individual taxes, corporate and partnership taxes and payroll tax preparation for a wide range of satisfied clients throughout Luzerne County.
Among her many accomplishments, one that makes her extremely proud is being inducted to the Wilkes University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. She was named to the 13th class of elite athletes at the University, recognized for her prowess as a member of the Colonel’s women’s basketball and softball teams from 1974 to 1978, playing under her maiden name, Karen Olney.
Karen and her husband, Kevin Hazleton, the Fire Chief of the City of Nanticoke, reside in Nanticoke. They have two children. Michelle works at the firm as a senior accountant and also owns her own business, Hazleton Payroll and Business Solutions, Inc. Her son, Kevin, is a proud Penn State graduate and is employed by the Department of Defense as a nuclear engineer in Chesapeake, Virginia.
During her time off, Karen enjoys reading, traveling, competitive golf, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and spending time with family and friends.
